2023 MSEA Summer Leadership Conference You’re worth it! Fight for a living wage, fairness and respect.
At SLC 2023we’re keeping it classic with a twist. Attendees will learn the skills they need to advocate for fairness in their job, no matter the title, and win contracts to match through our core trainings—that’s classic. The twist? We’re going hard for the endorsement—by every local union— of the Education Support Professional Bill of Rights. We’ll do that through role plays and case studies, T(Ed) Talks, electives, and our annual solidarity action.
FOUR NEW REASONS NOT TO MISS SLC 2023
Solidarity in Action We’re getting up close and personal as we take the fight for an ESP Bill of Rights to members’ homes and worksites. “Solidarity is easy from afar. It’s much harder and more uncomfortable up close and personal.”
Changing it Up The pandemic taught us that there’s no replacement for in-person connections! That’s why this year’s SLC is more centrally located, shorter (but with the same amount of time for learning!), and a bit later in the summer.
Get Inspired on Us MSEA’s Board of Directors is providing scholarships for every local union to send three members to SLC. Scholarships cover food, housing, and conference registration fees.
Taking it Beyond SLC This year features an expanded Emerging Leaders Academy. ELA will launch graduates on the path to leadership and a critical follow-up with the SLC team in April 2024 will make sure these new leaders have the knowledge, support, and confidence they need to keep moving forward.
1. A member can pay for themselves.
2. Locals can utilize the MSEA scholarships that are available (up to 3 per local).
3. Locals can apply for a MSEA Professional Development and Training Grant. The application and details can be found in the MSEA Grant Book.
4. Locals can utilize their own funds to pay for members to attend.
Overnight in a shared hotel room registration is $330 and includes all meals.
Overnight in a private hotel room registration $444. MSEA pays the double rate only. If a member selects a single room and is attending on a MSEA Scholarship, it will be up to the member or local to pay the difference ($114).
Commuter registration is $182 and includes lunch and dinner only.
Scholarships and grants cover 100% of registration costs, but do not cover travel mileage, tolls etc. traveling to and from SLC. Locals may choose to fund additional costs outside of the scholarship and grant if they so choose.
MSEA is committed to public health practices that reduce the risk of COVID-19 and help protect all participants and event staff. Participants attending the in-person event must agree to MSEA’s COVID-19 Waiver of Liability and Code of Conduct for the event in order to attend.
