Recently the Maryland State Education Association’s Representative Assembly, which consists of hundreds of educators from across the state elected by their colleagues, voted to take a position of support for the Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment, which Marylanders will vote on this November.
“We’re proud to stand with Maryland families in support of the Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment,” said Baltimore County 4th and 5th grade teacher and MSEA President Cheryl Bost. “Our national union, the National Education Association, along with MSEA has long supported the rights and freedoms of educators to make their own decisions of whether to have children and how to have a family. Now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, the rights and protections of women and families have been under attack across the country, greatly restricting rights and freedoms in deeply personal and invasive ways—from banning abortion to restricting fertility treatments like IVF. We must ensure that Marylanders have the highest possible protection by enshrining our rights and freedoms in the Maryland constitution. A YES vote this fall will amend Maryland’s constitution to ensure that everyone has the fundamental right to reproductive freedom.”
“We’re proud to have educators from across the state join us in encouraging Marylanders to vote YES on the reproductive freedom ballot question this fall to enshrine our rights in the constitution,” said Erin Bradley, chair, Freedom in Reproduction Maryland. “Together, we’ll ensure that patients—not politicians—make their own deeply personal decisions on healthcare and abortion, and that reproductive rights remain protected in Maryland despite the national attacks on choice since the fall of Roe v. Wade.”
