Where Do We Go From Here—A Call to Individual Conscience, Collective Consciousness, and Community Action.

At this event, educators, students, and community members will come together to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy, hear from a dynamic keynote speaker, and recognize our 2026 MSEA award winners. This event is free for members, $15 for children, and $25 for non-member attendees. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. with a buffet breakfast and student performances beginning at 9:30 am. The Celebration officially kicks off at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m.

Keynote Speaker

Brea Baker is a freedom fighter and writer (in that order) who has been working on the frontlines for over a decade, first as a student activist and now as a writer and national strategist. With a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University, Brea believes deeply in the need for nuanced storytelling and political imagination. Her first book, ROOTED: The American Legacy of Land Theft & The Modern Movement for Black Land Ownership, details her family’s experiences across the South and makes another case for reparations and collectivism. ROOTED has been celebrated in The New Yorker, The Guardian, Apple Books, the New York Times, iHeart Radio’s The Breakfast Club, Harper’s BAZAAR, Ms. Magazine, and was selected as the Black Caucus of the American Library Association’s 2024 Nonfiction Honor Book.
