MSEA is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Union Summer program for ESP member organizers with the goal of building union membership and local union participation around the MSEA ESP Bill of Rights. These are paid 8-week positions at 20-hours per week, $30.00 per hour, starting on Monday, June 22 through Friday, August 14. The Union Summer program will train and support ESP member organizers to recruit and engage potential members across the state in a regional capacity by using the one-on-one organizing model and the MSEA ESP Bill of Rights. Our program will also provide regular coaching by experienced union organizers as well as scholarships to attend the MSEA Summer Leadership Conference and the NEA Zone 1 Organizing Institute. Applicants should be passionate about racial, social, and economic justice, detail-oriented, committed to the labor movement, and willing to have conversations about the importance of union membership and participation with potential ESP members from diverse backgrounds. No prior union experience is necessary. ESP member organizers will learn how to:
• Sign up new members during one-on-one meetings and in union orientations, and answer questions about benefits and rights found within the MSEA ESP Bill of Rights.
• Conduct one-on-one organizing conversations with a focus on building union and leadership capacity for collective actions, site-based advocacy, and beyond.
• Identify new union leaders and activists.
• Develop and implement internal organizing campaigns.
• Utilize and maintain organizing lists. Be a part of our power building movement and apply to be a union organizer today! Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis up until April 23rd, 2026. Interviews will be conducted from January – April 2026 To be eligible for the 2026 ESP Summer Organizing program you must be an ESP member of your local, state, and national union.
Women, people of color, and people who are LGBTQIA are all encouraged to apply. People who participate in this program may be considered for future organizer employment opportunities where needed.
