Richard Benfer is an elementary school teacher with the Anne Arundel County Public School System. In addition to serving on the MSEA Board of Directors, Richard is currently on leave serving as the president of the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC). Richard began his tenure in this position on August 1, 2012.
Richard grew up in Anne Arundel County and attended public school there, graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 1981. He became the first in his family to attend college, earning an Associate’s Degree in Elementary Education from Anne Arundel Community College and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Towson University. Richard then attended Loyola College of Maryland, where he earned a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction. He then earned his Administration Credential from Johns Hopkins University.
Richard was a building rep for twelve years for TAAAC, served on the TAAAC Board of Directors for five years, and was elected TAAAC vice president and served six years before becoming TAAAC president. He currently serves as the MSEA Board liaison to the MSEA Human and Civil Rights Committee.
Richard resides in Severna Park and has a dog, Zack, and a cat, Ms. Hannah.
